WIPocalypse 2014 - January

Since I decided this year that I am going to try and whittle down my pile of WIPs/UFOs, I thought it was as good a reason as any to join WIPocalypse 2014. If you are unfamiliar with what exactly WIPocalypse is, go here.  I am hoping it will keep me on track.

I have started a list here of some of my current WIPs/UFOs.  Although I am up to 18 it is still not complete.  I will probably be adding more to it this weekend.  I don't plan to get them all done this year but I hope to get some of them finished without replacing them with the same amount of new starts.  I admit, I do have a serious case of startitis but I am determined to curtail it this year.

I have made a good start so far and finished up 2 WIPs/UFOs - one from last year  and one from 3 years ago.

In 2011 I started stitching the 4 snowmen in Becky Boo's Let it Snow © A Stitcher's Hands.  Below is a pic of three of them, the fourth one is all stitched but I still need to sew up into an ornament.

The 2nd finished WIP was the 2013 Sew Advent SAL © 2013 iStitch Designs that I started on December 1st, 2013 and managed to keep up with until December 7th (a new part was released everyday until December 24th) when I had to drop it for more pressing projects.  I picked it up again after New Year's and finished it up last weekend.

I am currently working on Lizzie*Kate's Holly & Hearts Mystery Sampler Club © 2013 Lizzie*Kate, Inc.  This SAL started in September of last year and I was making good progress until for some unknown reason I stopped.   I'm back to it again.   It is a joy to stitch and I love the design.  Below are pics of where I was when I dropped it and my progress to date.

For this year's WIPocalypse Measi's had changed the monthly themes to topics.  This month topic is to introduce myself.  So here are some things you may or may not know about me.

My name is Loretta.  I am married (will be 28 years in May).  We have no children but we currently have 1 dog - Mandy.  She is a mix - Jack Russell, Shetland Sheepdog and who knows what else and is a great joy to have around.

My day job is a bookkeeper for a family business and my hobbies include cross-stitching (of course), knitting and reading.   I would serious love to take up quilting but just don't have the time right now.

I am also very involved in the Girl Guides of Canada.  I was a Brownie and a Girl Guide as a child and have been an adult member for over 30 years.   I currently do the books for various units and help out with Units when an extra body is needed.  I especially like to help out at camps.  Although I don't camp as much as I used to, I still love it when I can get out in a tent and sleeping bag.

I have been cross-stitching for about 40 years now and I have no intention of quitting anytime soon.  It has always been a good stress reliever.   I stitch mainly on evenweave /linen but still occasionally use aida.   My favourite fabric counts are 28, 30 or 32 but I occassionaly dabble in 36ct or 40ct.   My favourite designer at the moment is Little House Needleworks.  I have quite number of her charts.   I absolutely adored her Christmas Ornament and Sheep Virtue series.

My favourite book genre is Mystery with the occasional  Historical Fiction thrown in for good measure.

I am also an avid collector of Nutcrackers and Nutcracker theme items.   I  slowed down a bit in the last couple of years as I am running out of room to store them.  But I did break down this year and purchased  the Nutcracker themed lotion, liquid soap and scented candles from the BBC Canada Shop.  They were too cute and I couldn't pass them up.  I bought a set for each bathroom.

Well that is enough about me.   Take care and have a great day!  Happy Stitching!!!

THANK YOU FOR VISITING!!!!

  7. I love the Holly & Hearts sampler! I'm looking forward to seeing it grow. I love to read mysteries, too, and just discovered the joys of audiobooks - you can stitch and "read" at the same time!
