Today I was going to work on another WIP but I decided to work on something new. I picked a Mill Hill beaded kit - Kris Mouse.

Crazy January Challenge 2012 - Day Twenty - nine

I spent most of my stitching time today finishing up an item I am stitching for an exchange so I didn't get today's CJC 2012 project until later in the day. This is a Box Top and a set of Bride's Tree Ornaments I want to stitch for my niece who is getting married later this year. The chart is by The Victoria Sampler.

The first picture shows how far I was before I started stitching on it today.

This is how much I managed to stitch today.

Tomorrow it is back to work so I guess I better get some "beauty" sleep.

Crazy January Challenge Day 2012 Twenty-three to Twenty-eight ++++++

It has been a busy week and I haven't had a chance to update my CJC 2012 challenge. So here it is all at once.

Day Twenty-three:

I pulled out another start form CJC 2012 - Nutcracker Christmas from X's and Oh's.

This is how far I got in 2011.

and this is what I manage on Monday.

Day Twenty-Four:

On Tuesday I put a few more stitches into Lanarte's Seaside Sweethearts (another CJC 2011 start).

I managed to stitch on this a couple of times last year so I am a little further on this on than some of my other starts.

This is how it looked as of Janaury 8, 2011

and this is where I am now.

Day Twenty-five:

Wednesday's start was a WIP from last year - LHN's Home of A Needleworker. This was the first LHN chart I ever purchased and it started me on my love of LHN designs. The owner of the ONS I purchased it from provided a conversion of the DMC threads to GAST and WDW and that it what I am using except for DMC 729 since it is only used for one stitch.

Day Twenty-Six:

On Thursday it was another 2011 WIP - Blackbird Designs (Loose Feathers #16) - Garland Fair.

Day Twenty-Seven:

Friday was devoted to working on my oldest WIP - Teresa Wentzler's Peacock Tapestry. I am still working on the left hand border.

Above is how the border looked on December 31st and below is how it looks now.

Day Twenty-Eight:

Today was reserved for Papillon Creations' - Castles In the Air Mystery SAL. I scanned it this morning before I started stitching.

I only managed to stitch a little bit of it today.

I stitching it using silk floss from Hand Dyed Fibers.

You can go here to see completed pictures of it. This can be stitched with cross stitch only or with specialty stitches (as you may of noticed I am doing the specialty stitches) and with either a fantasy or flower theme (I haven't decided which I will be doing yet.)

I had another finish this week - Hearts of Canada - Prince Edward Island.

Well, that is it for this week. Tomorrow I am pulling out another WIP (VS - Christmas Treasures Collection) - a wedding gift for my niece and I also hope to finish the piece I am stitching for an exchange - I just need to add the beading.

TUSAL UPDATE

Today is the first TUSAL report for 2012.

Below is my ort pail showing all the orts collected since my December update.

I then pushed down last years orts in the jar and photographed the collected orts in front of the jar.

And now I have added them to the jar.

This month's orts contain some pretty pinks and a little bit of gold braid plus some yarn from my knitting.

Crazy January Challenge 2012 - Day Twenty, Twenty-one and Twenty-two and other things

Day Twenty:

On Friday I worked on Monopoly. This was a chart that I started last year for the Crazy January Challenge.

This is how far I got last year.

Day Twenty-one:

Yesterday's start was the last of the Hearts of Canada I have left to do - Ontario.

Day Twenty-Two:

Today I pulled out another WIP from last year's CJC. This one is Becky Boo's "Let it Snow". I managed to finished the stitching on the first of 4 snowmen.

But first this is how far I got last year.

And this is today's progress.

From now until the 31st I will be working on WIPs. Tomorrow it will be the Nutcracker Christmas stocking by X's and Oh's.

It was the IHS Weekend and besides the stitching I did for the CJC 2012 I also managed to finish up 3 of my previous starts. It was a good weekend for IHSW. Since I have a cold, I wasn't going anywhere. Sleeping, stitching and reading was all I wanted to do.

Today I went back to another in the Hearts of Canada series - Yukon Territory. Since I was home today with a bad cold I(the cold my DH had last week finally caught up with me) I managed to get quite a bit stitched.

I was quite busy this weekend so I didn't get a chance to make a post. I did manage to find time to stitch and even finished one of my starts. I am also continuing on with the challenge until the end of the month. However, from now until the 31st I will be working on a few WIPs along with some new starts.

On Saturday I started on VS Hearts of Canada Newfoundland and Labrador.

Crazy January Challenge 2012 - Day Thirteen

Another day, another start. Today it was Alberta.

I can't believe we are already at Day Thirteen. Tomorrow I will be back with Newfoundland and Labrador.

It has been long day and I am ready to go to bed. I have a busy weekend ahead. On Sunday my SIL and her family coming over brunch so tomorrow I will be doing as much preparation as I can. After they leave, I intend to start putting a way my Christmas Trees and the Nutcrackers (Yes, I still have them up. I enjoy the lights when I come home from work and I wanted to keep everything up until after my in-laws were over. Normally, I would have started taking them down last weekend after the 12 Days of Christmas.)

Right now I am going to concentrate finishing up the Peacock Tapestry by Teresa Wentzler for this challenge. It is my oldest UFO and I am determined to finish it this year. I stopped stitching on it about a year ago. This is how far I was.

I started working on it again on December 31st and right now I am working on the left hand border. Most of the green stitches in this photo is what I have recently added.

Crazy January Challenge 2012 - Day Seven

Today I started the first of the Hearts of Canada kits from The Victoria Sampler that I had chosen to stitch during this current challenge. This one is Quebec

I have all the kits in the Hearts of Canada series plus the Canada and Germany (my parents birthplace) ones from the International Hearts series. I stitched the Canada and Manitoba (my home province) kits a few years back.

Once I have all the kits stitched I plan to make them into a wall hanging.

Today's is Quaker Sampler 2003 by Threads Through Time (Nancy Sturgeon). I only managed to stitch one strand of floss. But the piece is only 2" x 2" so it won't take long to finish once I get back to it.

Crazy January Challenge 2012 - Day One

Today was Day One of the Crazy January Challenge 2012.

My start today was The Home of a Needleworker (Too!) by Little House Needleworks. I am stitching it on 36ct Flax Edinborough Linen with the Crescent Colour threads listed on the chart.

I already have the first Home of the Needleworker in my pile of WIPs. It would be great if I managed to finish both of them this year.

I did some stitching on a couple of pieces for two exchanges I am currently participating in so I can't show them right now. One of them falls into this here month's theme for Theme-a-licious and the other works into the next challenge at Christmas Ornament Challenge 2011.

I am also joining Elaine in stitching Christmas ornaments throughout the year. She has set up a new blog for this and you can find it here. This month's theme is Santa Claus. This is the chart I will be stitching (it was already on my list for the CJC 2012.)

It is a design by Sandra Sullivan called Santa, Please Bring Me.... (2008 Santa Ornament). I am stitching it on a leftover piece of 28ct earth tone mottled fabric I had in my stash using DMC, WDW and CC floss.

Besides cross stitching today, I also knitted the first 20 rows in the January dishcloth in the KAL at Monthly Dishcloths (Knit-A-Long). I am hoping to keep up with the KALs this year and have 24 cloths finished by December.

The Oldest UFO

Back in November I decided to join Evalina`s (this and that) The Oldest UFO Sal. I will try anything to help me complete my oldest UFO - Teresa Wentzler`s Peacock Tapestry. I love this piece but all the colour changes and backstitching has proven quite daunting. Plus the fact that I am easily distracted.

This is how it looked after the last time I stitched on it. (Over a year ago!)

I decided to work on the left hand border this evening and this is how it looked before I started stitching.

This is the progress I made this evening.

I spent yesterday and today finishing up Chilly`s Gift by Stitchy Kitty. I really enjoyed stitching this one and really love how it turned out.

I was inspired to stitch this penguin after finding out on Christmas Day that one of my nieces loves penguins. (She told me a sweet story about how her and her SO found a Penguin Nutcracker at Michaels with a missing wing and that they bought it and her SO whittled a new wing for it.) I came home and looked for all the penquin charts I had and this one was on top of my TO DO list.

I wanted to wish you all the very best in the New Year. Thank also for stopping by and leaving a comment when you could. It has been enjoyable year and I am looking to the next one.

I am off now to work on my Oldest UFO - Peacock Tapestry by Teresa Wentzler. I am also going to work on my WIPocalypse 2012 list where the Peacock Tapestry will be at the top. I am bound and determined to get this one finish in 2012. Wish me luck.

I am also going to kit up my January piece for Theme-a-licous 2012. I won`t be naming the piece or showing any pictures as it is a chart that I am stitching for the Stitched With Love Exchanges new exchange - Love and Friendship Exchange. On the sixth day of Christmas my true love gave to me ..................

Six geese a-laying!!! More livestock!!!!! Imagine trying to ship that!!!! Not going to happen!!!!!! Instead today's giveaway is for some Christmas trim and embellishment.

There is bucket of red buttons - assorted sizes, snowflake ribbon - red on white, and red cording with with gold beads.

Interspersed with a little of bit of housekeeping I spent most of the day working on Chilly's Gift. I have it almost done and hopefully will be able to post a finished pic tomorrow.

We went out this afternoon to visit my MIL. She is still in the rehab hospital (she was thankfully able to come out on Christmas Day to spend time with the family and to eat a decent meal). She has been in the hospital for seven weeks now.

Afterwards my DH and I used a GC we had received at Christmas to have a very delicious meal at The Keg Steakhouse.

I am home tomorrow so I hoping to get a lot of stitching done this weekend. My DH and I usually have a low key New Years - we stay in and make a good dinner and just enjoy each other's company.

We went out today to see the new Sherlock Holmes movie. We enjoyed it very much.

I love Boxing Day. After all the activity on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day it is nice to have a day at home to do whatever I wanted to do. I don't particularly care for shopping so I am not one to take part in the numerous Boxing Day sales. We did go first thing this morning to Michaels however. My DH paints and Michaels have their canvases 60% off and with an additional 25% off on the total purchase he was able to buy 3 good size canvases for under $35.00. (That was too good of a deal to pass up). I bought some yarn for stitching dishcloths and few little items for giveaways and exchanges. After that we out for breakfast at Smitty's and then back home. I spent the rest of day stitching.

I finishing the stitching on the "Believe Tree" ornament and just need to add the beads and the star. I then pulled another M Design word tree ornament to work on - Imagine. One of my neices really loves these trees. Everytime I stitch one these she grabs it. She already announce to her siblings that she has dibs on the Believe Tree.

More Baking and my Christmas Trees

Well, I made the shortbread dough last night but I didn't bake them until this morning.

Then this afternoon I made the Voluptuous Coconut Macaroons. I hadn't made them for a couple of years and forgot that the baking time in the original recipe was off. It said 20 minutes but after almost burning the first batch I found that they are done after 10 minutes.

Last night I finished decorating my main tree in the Living Room

and today I finished decorating my Nutcracker Tree and got my Shepherd's Bush 2000 Years Ago tree in position and all lighted up.

I have most of my decorating done now - just few bits and pieces to put into place. And once I have made my Butter Tart Squares all the baking will be done. Yippee!!!

After I finished posting here, I will go back to stitching on another one of my 2011 Crazy January Challenge starts - Believe Tree by Mary McLenon (M Designs). I will post a picture of my progress tomorrow.

Baker's Double Swirl Bark

I had a request for the recipe for the Marble Almond Bark I made earlier today so here it is (it is printed inside the box of Baker's White Chocolate):

6 squares Baker's Bittersweet Chocolate
6 squares White Chocolate
1 cup whole, toasted almonds

1. Partially melt bittersweet chocolate in small microwavable bowl on MEDIUM 2 minutes. Remove from oven and stir until chocolate is completely melted and smooth. Repeat with white chocolate.

2. Stir 1/2 cup toasted almonds into each bowl of melted chocolate. Drop spoonfuls of chocolate, alternating white and bittersweet on a waxed paper lined cookie sheet.

3. Using the end of a knife, draw the dark and white chocolate together to give a marbled effect. Chill until firm. Break into about 20 pieces. Store leftover bark in the refrigerator.

Variations: Substitute 1 cup coarsely chopped Oreo cookies for the nuts, if desired.

I had a wonderful day today - stitching, decorating and making more Christmas goodies.

Last Sunday I made my Christstollen.

And today I made Molasses Cookies (my DH likes these):

and some Marble Almond Bar.

I currently baking Artisan Semolina Buns for Christmas Eve. (I will be freezing them.) And I am trying to decide whether or not to make the Shortbread tonight or tomorrow. I will let you what I decided tomorrow.

My main tree in the living room is almost finished. My DH still has to put the Angel on top (he said he would do it tomorrow - the procrastinator!!!) and I think there are still a few ornaments that I haven't brought up from the basement. I will post a pic when it is all finished.

I have three of my ornaments ready to ornamentify (I love this "new" word :) - I have seen it used a couple of times this week). The Different Drummer just needs some backstitching and beading to be done and then that one will be done too. I will post some pics tomorrow.

(Be thankful you can`t really hear me sing or you be heading for the hills! LOL)

Christmas is my favourite time of the the year. So today I had a great time doing Christmasy things.

This morning I baked 3 loaves of Jack Daniel`s Classic Holiday Fruitcake . I like this recipe because it doesn`t have any candied cherries or pineapple. I love candied citrus peel but I have never been a fan of the cherries or pineapple.

And then this afternoon I made half a batch of my favourite rum ball recipe. You can find the recipe here. I love this recipe because it is so decadent. ;)

Tomorrow I hope to make a Christstollen. (Please note that although this is the recipe I use, I don`t put in any candied cherries. I just increase the amount of candied citron.) Next week my plan is to make some butter tart squares, molasses cookies and shortbread.

I also started pulling out my Nutcrackers to decorate for Christmas. It takes about a week for me to get them all out and in their place as well getting my trees decorated (I have 3 trees - the main tree in the living room, the Nutcracker tree in the den and the Shepherd`s Bush 2000 years Ago mini tree in the Dining Room.) I decorate almost every room in the house with Nutcrackers (even the bathrooms). The only room my DH can find refuge from them is the bedroom. :)

This is my Advent Nutcracker

and these three are the Phantom of the Opera, Maid Marion and a Tyrolean marking the last German Mark and the switchover to the Euro.

I even managed to find some to stitch on Daffycat`s Stocking Reindeer. I hoping to have this on done soon so I can start her Ribbon Reindeer. I have decided to keep the reindeer for myself. Which means I am going to have find a way to display. Hmmm..... perhaps another tree? (Pssst.....don't tell my DH!!!)

In August of 2010 I finished stitching this design of Twas the Night Before Christmas (Little Old Me Designs)

My thought was to make it into a wall hanging but I needed to find the right fabric for the backing. After several months of searching I finally found it on Esty but the background was in green and I wanted blue. I did some further searching on the site and eventually found the very same fabric with a blue background. It is called Dash Away All by Alexander Henry Fabrics. I think it is absolutely perfect.

But I sure had a long wait before the fabric was in my hot little hands. I ordered the fabric on October 23rd. It was mailed (first class) on October 24th (the cancellation stamp verifies this) and it arrived in my mailbox today - six weeks later. Normally anything mailed to me from the States takes at the most 2 weeks - sometimes 3. The only time something took over a month was when the sender put the wrong Postal Code and the parcel went to another Province first. I felt for sure that the fabric was lost for good. It sure made my day to come home today and to see that it had finally arrived.

I Did it!!!!

I promised on Monday to post progress pics of my current projects but I had forgotten that we were visiting my MIL yesterday and by the time we came home I didn't feel like posting again.

TUSAL Update

Here is a pic of my "ort" pail. I managed a lot of stitching lately so the pail is almost 1/2 full this month.

This is my jar after the "orts" from the pail were added. It looks almost full, but after squished them down it is only 1/2 full now.

Next month will hopefully be just as good as I have a lot stitching planned before Christmas.

2012 could be very interesting. I spent part of the evening looking through my stash to see what I would like to stitch (so many choices) and then I put a few stitches into the Merry Moose and Frosty Flakes

Visited My MIL this evening!

We went to see her after work today. She has been moved to another hospital now for rehab. Her spirits are good but she ain't loving the hospital food and really wishes she could go home. The biggest stumbling block to that is that her home is a 2-story with the BDR and Main bath upstairs and the shower and laundry room in the basement. Until they feel she can handle it they aren't releasing her. It really is crappy that she has to go through this.

We stopped at Tim Hortons for a sandwich, so when we got home I didn't need to make any supper and was able to get a little bit of stitching time in. I worked on the Merry Moose this evening.

I love the Mill Hill Beaded Ornament kits. They are such a quick stitch and look great when they are finished.

no time to stitch. Tonight, unlike yesterday, I felt like stitching. I pulled out the Frosty Flakes and added a few stitches to it plus I started a Mill Hill Kit called Merry Moose. I did manage to finish making the Windows of Faith, Hope and Peace into a ornament and here is the result.

Another Crazy January Challenge 2011 Project Completed

I managed to finish another project I started during the Crazy January Challenge 2011. It is another Ornament of the Month design from Little House Needleworks - Joy to the World.

That is 7 down, 8 more to go.

The next challenge piece I will be working is Frosty Flakes - another LHN ornament of the month design. It is the last of the 2010 ornaments I have left to stitch, then I can start on the 2011s. (I know, it's about time!)

I also put the finishing touches on a Humbug I stitched up a couple of weeks ago. You can find the chart here along with a lot of other nice ones.

As soon as I finish this post I going to finish the Windows of Faith, Hope and Peace. I just need to stitch the word FAITH and the border which I think I will partially do with beads.

I also plan to finish the backstitching on Witchy Boot so that I can finish it into a decorative pillow.

I just have 8 minutes to make today's post. We went to the theatre this evening and so I was only able to stitch a couple of more squares on the Windows of Faith, Hope & Peace.

It was a really great play and we had a wonderful evening out. We have nothing special planned for the rest of weekend so I should be able to get some good stitching time.

I am tired and am ready to hit the pillow. I worked on the SMO Witchy Boot this evening. All I have left to do is the backstitching.

I started another ornament over the weekend call Windows of Faith, Hope and Peace. It is by Primrose Needleworks and can be found in the 2010 JCS Christmas Ornament issue.

Another Ornament Finish!

I finished ornament #4 for the Christmas Ornament Challenge 2011 this morning. I coffee-dyed the fabric, whipped stitched the front and back panels together and trim it with a very christmasy cording. I very happy with the results.

This morning I went through my collection of Christmas freebies to see if there was anything I wanted to stitch when I came across this little cutie by Valerie called Renne de Noel.

It was a quick stitch and I will be finishing it into an ornament using the trim pictured with it. The chart is available here.

After I finished stitching this, I went visiting blogs and found out that Daffycat has new reindeer out called Stocking Reindeer. I immediately emailed her for the chart and will probably start sometime this week.

Below is my progress on Witchy Boot. I just need to fill in the boot and finish the backstitching. I was going to make this into an ornament for my Halloween wreath but decided I have enough on it already so I will be making it into a display pillow using the fabric and ribbon Lesleyanne sent me in the Fall into Halloween Exchange.

I also added a few stitches to Joy to the World. I finished the dress and added the green trim.

Well, that is my stitching news for today. I don't think I will be getting much stitching done tomorrow. I have to prepare some financial reports and cheques for a meeting on Monday night and we will probably be visiting my MIL in the hospital sometime tomorrow. The poor dear fell and fractured her hip on Thursday. She is 84 years old and had a hip replacement done this afternoon. I am hoping all goes well for her.

My Three Reindeer

I had a very productive day stitching today. I manage to finish all three of the reindeer by Daffycat Designs - Holly, Jinglebell and Mistletoe.

I also finally got around to making the L*K Life's A Stitch (Traveling Pattern Sisterhood) into a display pillow.

Tomorrow my goal is to finish the SanMan Witchy Boot and make some more progress on the LHN Joy to the World.

It's been a long day so I need to get some sleep now. Good night and happy stitching!!!!

I finished stitching on the Holly Reindeer this evening. Tomorrow I plan to finish the Jinglebell and Mistletoe Reindeers and then make them all into ornaments. I replaced DMC 814 with some beads I had left over from a previous project.

This is my progress on the other two reindeer. I think all 3 are just adorable.

After two nights staying up until past 1:00 am, I am hitting the sack early tonight.

I managed to get a little stitching done tonight but I will wait until tomorrow before I post any pics. I added the antlers to my 3 reindeer, put a few more stitches in Witchy Boot and pulled out another one of my Crazy January Challenge pieces - "Joy to the World" from Little House Needleworks.

Unfortunately, although I would love to stitch some more this evening, I am presently yawning way too much so I am going to say Good Night.

I am a treasurer with Girl Guides and it is the Fall cookie (mint) campaign so I have spent most of the evening counting money.

No Time to Stitch Today!

But as I am determined to post everyday this month (as part of a challenge), I am back again.

I had a meeting this evening so the only pictures I have are what I stitched this weekend. I am going to stitch Daffycat's 3 reindeer at the same time. I showed a progress pic of "Holly Reindeer" on Saturday. Below is my progress on the other 2 - "Jinglebell Reindeer" and "Mistletoe Reindeer".

I did work on the San Man Witchy Boot but I was unable to finish. Hopefully by the end of the week.

I will sign off this post with a picture of some beautiful flowers I received on Friday as a Thank You.

Aren't they lovely. They made my office smell so good throughout the afternoon. I love getting flowers. Whenever I get a beautiful bouquet of flowers, I remember the first bouquet I ever received. It was for my 16th Birthday from my maternal grandfather. I had just met him the day before when my parents, my brother and I arrived on our first visit to Germany since my parents immigrated 20 years beforehand. They were the biggest and most gorgeous bunch of flowers I had ever seen. It is one of the few memories I have of him. That same morning he also went out and got fresh buns from the bakery for our breakfast. They were absolutely heavenly.

It is getting late now and I think I should be getting for bed.

Too tired to stitch but ....................

I did it anyways. (The jury is still out on whether or not it was a good idea.) I completely forgot about the time change this morning and got up way too early. I had been up for a couple of hours when my DH wakes up and the first thing out of his mouth was "Didn't the clocks go back last night?" Boy did I feel stupid.

Anyways, after dinner with my Mom and brother this afternoon, I sat down in my stitching corner to finish off the iStitch Mystery SAL. Its done but boy was that a trial and a half. It took over 3 hours to complete the initial in the bottom right hand corner. I kept missing a row or a stitch and had to "frog" at least 3 times. However, I persevered and here it is.

Another One Done!!!

Well, I finally finished another project from the 2011 Crazy January Challenge.

Little House Needleworks

So, that is 6 done out of 15. As you probably noticed I am easily distracted by new projects, especially mystery SALs, so I haven't been working on the Crazy January projects very much in the past few months. However, between now and Dec. 31st I am going to try and focus on them a bit more and hopefully will be finish a few more.

This one won't qualified for the Christmas Ornament Challenge 2011 since I started back in January, but it is another for my Christmas Basket (the one I pass around Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for the family to chose an ornament from). I have completed 9 and need at least 4 more.

Well, I am going to do some more stitching!!! Hope you are all having a great weekend. I'll be back tomorrow, if not sooner.
